Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company opens navigation on Middle Danube

November 8, 2023

Due to heavy rainfall, the water level has gradually risen in the upper and then in the middle section of the Danube river. At present, water levels allow working throughout the Danube, and the fleet is being loaded at full draft of 2.5-2.7 meters.

Thanks to favorable conditions, Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company is increasing the number of caravans on the Middle Danube. In September, the company started testing a new project: barge caravans deliver ore from Ukraine to Serbia, load grain on the way back and head to Constanta.

“Odesa ports are open again, and this has partially relieved the Danube ports. Therefore, as planned, we are increasing the number of the fleet on the Middle Danube. For the first time, UDP is exporting both Ukrainian grain and grain from EU countries. Our entire fleet is in operation. After modernization, our logistics complex for grain transshipment is gaining pace. Our sustainable development strategy, which involves diversification of logistics flows, creation of complex supply chains, and long-term direct contracts, has fully justified itself,” Vladislav Belakh, Deputy CEO of UDP, said.

As a reminder, in early October, Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company closed navigation on the Middle Danube due to a drop in water level.
