According to ORLEN Group, Polish companies ORLEN Kolej, PESA, and Newag have signed an agreement to supply 40 locomotives in 2027-2028. Specifically, 20 units of the 304E Gama will be supplied by PESA, and 20 E6ACTadnb Dragon 2 units will be supplied by Newag.
The locomotives are equipped with “last mile” modules, so they can operate on non-electrified sections of the railway network.
The new locomotives are expected to help transport an additional 7.2 million tons of cargo per year.
The total value of the contract amounts to PLN 800 million (approximately €190 million). The project is financed through an operating lease from PKO Leasing.
In October, the ORLEN Group announced that it had completed the consolidation of its railway and road transport companies in Poland and the Czech Republic. In particular, ORLEN Kolej, Poland’s leading freight carrier, became the owner of ORLEN Unipetrol Doprava (100% of shares, specializing in the supply of chemical products). It will now have 200 locomotives at its disposal, enabling it to transport up to 20 million tons of cargo per year (+3 million tons).
