“Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works” PJSC has unveiled a new 19-7160 hopper for transporting cement. This project was implemented at the request of building materials manufacturers who are switching to lightweight cement with a lower density. The company announced this on its social media accounts.
Main characteristics of the new 1-BM car:
load capacity – 73.5 tons with a tare weight of 20.5 tons;
The body volume is 76 cubic meters, which is 9 cubic meters more than the previous model 19-7075 (this allows you to immediately fill the full weight without waiting for the cargo to settle or additional tamping, which significantly speeds up the turnaround of cars).
The base of the car and the location of the hatches are adapted to the existing infrastructure of manufacturers and terminals. The updated design of the car allows all four loading hatches to be sealed with a single seal, reducing costs and processing time.
Currently, two prototypes have been manufactured at the plant in order to reduce testing time and put the cars into operation. One car was tested in a loaded state, while the other was tested empty. The 19-7160 model cars successfully passed all tests and are now recommended for serial production.
“We carried out this project on behalf of building materials manufacturers. They are switching to lighter cement, which has a lower density when loaded. This means that the product takes up more volume. We have to put the cars on hold, wait for the cargo to settle, or compact and tamp it down so that we can add more later. Precious time is lost, cars are idle, and additional funds are needed to pay the loaders,” said Andriy Hetman, chief designer of freight car and machine building.
The 1-BM gauge allows new cars to operate on main and other railway lines in European countries that are members of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways with a track width of 1435 mm for international connections with bogie replacement.
