Interpipe KLW supplied ULT 35 wheel sets to Swedish rolling stock manufacturer

February 23, 2026

Ukraine’s Interpipe, under the KLW brand, has supplied wheel sets with an axle load of 35 tons to the Swedish rolling stock manufacturer Kiruna Wagon. These products will become the new standard for Kiruna Wagon and are intended for the production of wagons that will operate in heavy transport and difficult weather conditions.

A 35-ton axle load is only possible in a limited number of countries with developed and reinforced railway infrastructure. This load level places increased demands on the strength, wear resistance, and fatigue endurance of wheels and axles. An additional challenge is the harsh climatic conditions in northern Sweden, where low temperatures significantly affect the properties of materials.

The company noted that the wheel sets for the Kiruna Wagon were designed in accordance with customer specifications that exceed EN standards, particularly with regard to wheel steel grades according to AAR standards.

Niclas Eriksson, Senior sales specialist for the European and International Markets:

“The 35-ton wheelset will replace the 25-ton wheelset in their operations. Its design specifies a minimum diameter for 35-ton axle loads, while allowing the same wheelsets to be used later for 25-ton axle loads. This will help reduce inventory levels and extend the service life of the wheels.”
