            As expected, the last full working week on the freight market has not brought any positive developments for small-tonnage owners. Owners working in the Black and Mediterranean Seas are unable to raise rates even minimally despite quite a significant decline in tonnage list for late December and 1H January laycans

            While Mediterranean and North European small-tonnage markets were demonstrating signs of the traditional pre-Christmas rally in early December, owners’ hopes for further growth have faded this week.

            The Baltic & Continent coaster market remains somewhat buoyant, which market participants attribute to the traditional upturn ahead of the Christmas holidays in Europe. The market is mainly driven by grain cargoes, while the tonnage list stays limited.
