European Commission awards grant agreements for financing of transport infrastructure in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine

November 17, 2025

            Last week, the European Commission awarded grant agreements for the financing of transport infrastructure in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, and Moldova. These intentions were announced in early July this year.

            This funding project has been approved by the Coordination Committee of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, which supports the “Solidarity Routes” between the EU and Ukraine. Within its framework, funding for Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) in the amount of €73.5 million was approved (namely, the construction of a European gauge railway from Lviv to the border with Poland).

            In addition, funds will be allocated for the following projects:

  • €294 million for the construction of the Polish section of Rail Baltica;
  • €18.4 million for the construction of a line from the Polish city of Mikolow to the border with the Czech Republic;
  • €94.9 million for deployment of the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) on the TEN-T core network in seven provinces of Poland;
  • €44.3 million for extension of the fairway to the ports of Świnoujście, Szczecin, and Police;
  • €96.7 million for the modernization of the railway line in Slovakia between Žilina and Košice;
  • €27.3 million for the modernization of the cross-border connection between Košice and Čierna nad Tisou;
  • €11 million to improve rail safety and train compatibility on the TEN-T network in Slovakia;
  • €45 million for the development of rail links in Romania, connecting the port of Constanta and Bucharest with Ukraine and Moldova;
  • €33 million for a joint cross-border project between Romania and Moldova to modernize the Iași – Ungheni railway line, including Moldova’s first ever electrified section.
