Ukrzaliznytsia signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and Swiss private companies Schwihag AG and Arthur Flury AG. This was reported by the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine on its social media accounts.
These memoranda were signed as part of the first competition announced in January last year. This January, a second competition for project proposals was announced with a total budget of ₣150 million.
Swiss company Schwihag AG will supply UZ with materials for 520,000 railway sleepers and plans to localize production in Ukraine by transferring part of its production capacity.
In addition, UZ will receive contact networks from Arthur Flury AG.
Switzerland has been supporting Ukrzaliznytsia since 2023. Schwihag systems have already been used to restore rail connections with frontline regions, develop western border crossings with the EU, and build a 1435 mm gauge railway.
As a reminder, last year Ukrzaliznytsia purchased 240,670 sets of elastic dowel fastenings for R-65 rails manufactured by the Swiss company Schwihag AG. These products are needed to upgrade and repair critical sections of track in order to improve the reliability of infrastructure and the safety of rail transport.
