According to INTERPORT Servis, an agreement has been signed with METRANS (part of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG / HHLA) to modernize and expand the TIP Košice (Terminál Intermodájne Prepravy) intermodal terminal in Slovakia.
The terminal, with an area of almost 50,000 square meters, will receive new transshipment and storage facilities, equipment (e.g., two additional gantry cranes), and will be equipped with railway infrastructure for both 1,435 mm and 1,520 mm gauge tracks, which will allow it to handle cargo from Ukraine and send it to the EU network.
TIP Košice has been part of the METRANS network since 2008. The new investments are expected to increase the efficiency of the terminal as an important link in the East-West transport corridors.
This project is being implemented in view of trends in the development of terminal infrastructure near the EU’s eastern borders, driven by high demand for reliable transport links between Central Europe and Ukraine.
