Freight rolling stock rental rates in Baltic countries in August 2024
The rental rates of freight wagons held generally steady in the Baltic countries in August. The only exception is the range of rental rates of box cars with a body capacity of 161-175 cu m and fitting platforms, as rates were affected by currency fluctuations in those segments.

Still no good news can be seen for ship owners working on the small-tonnage shipping market unless we seriously consider some decline in bunker prices as such. The activity is steadily low in the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and North Europe , echoing major commodity markets.

Coaster ship owners are still unable to get freights moving in the Black and Mediterranean Seas. Moreover, many of them have already accepted the fact that activity will remain low and rates will be holding steady in the coming weeks, especially in the Black Sea.

The small-tonnage market remains depressed in the Black and Mediterranean Seas. In the last couple of weeks, ship owners managed to achieve a barely noticeable rate upturn only for shipments from Ukraine ($0.25-0.5/t up), which is quite far from what they expected more than a month after the start of the grain season.

There is a downtrend on the rental market of gondola cars primarily due to decreased offer of cargoes. Some operators forecast the rates to fall to ₴333-375/day in September (VAT excluding).
