May rental rates for gondola cars hold steady in Ukraine. According to market players, the situation has stabilized after the proper operation of Ukrzaliznytsia’s digital services were recently ensured.
Activity has declined again on the small-tonnage shipping market due to the Labor Day celebrations. The cargo/tonnage imbalance has gotten even sharper, especially in North Europe , as this region accepts a lot of ballasters from the Mediterranean region (mainly these are vessels under 30 years old operated by Turkish owners).

The end of Easter holidays has brought virtually no activity boost to the small-tonnage shipping market of the Black and Mediterranean Seas. “We see only a bit more offers, but the number of vessels in spot positions has even increased, especially in BlSea and Marmara,” a Turkish broker commented.
The freight wagon rental market remains generally steady in Baltic countries in April 2025. The rental rates of boxcars with a body capacity of 161-175 cu m and fitting platforms were the only ones that saw some adjustments due to currency fluctuations.

The small-tonnage market is witnessing another sad week for coaster owners since even timid hopes for a pre-holiday recovery failed. Things are even worse: market activity has shrunk to a minimum all across Europe, with many players already being out for Easter holidays (if not physically, then psychologically for sure).
