The railway traffic of rolled steel products, semi-finished products, pipes, pig iron and scrap of ferrous metals decreased by 9% month-on-month to 700,000 t in Ukraine in February. The Riga Freeport stepped up transshipment of mining and metallurgical products by 150% year-on-year to 178,800 t in the period from January 1 to February 29, 2024. PKP LHS again offers discounts for transportation of certain cargoes
According to the announcement by Polish railway operator PKP LHS of March 2, the company is offering its customers special discounts for transportation of coal (HS 2701), iron ore (2601) and metal products (72, 73) when importing and transiting from/through all LHS stations.

Export deliveries of ferrous metals by railway in January
Railway transportation of rolled products, semi-finished products, pipes, pig iron and ferrous metal scrap inched down by 2% to 700,000 t in Ukraine in January 2024 compared with December 2023. Averaging 500,000 t, the January export volume remained unchanged compared with December, while domestic supplies dropped by 10% month-on-month to 300,000 t.

Discounts for transit through territory of Moldova
Throughout 2024, a discount of 27% will be applied to the tariff for rail transportation of agricultural products in transit through Moldova. Such agreements were reached during a meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Moldovan Mixed Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation on September 29, 2023 in Odesa.
