In July, the cargo turnover at the Riga Freeport dropped to the lowest level since January 2021. Stevedoring companies reported a decline in handling volumes of all types of cargoes, with 1.3 million t transshipped in July (down 142,000 t or 10% compared with June).
The stevedoring companies of Liepaja SEZ handled 521,000 t of various types of goods in July, falling behind the June figure by 9% or 54,000 t.
The port of Klaipeda’s overall transshipment volume dropped by 242,000 t to 3.3 million t in May compared with April due to a 294,000 t slump in the cargo turnover to 2.4 million t at the Klaipeda State Seaport.

Turkish plants are showing steady interest in purchasing high quality imported steel scrap. The decline in energy prices and a resumed business activity on the market of finished steel products even allowed traders to raise prices.
Quotes for imported steel scrap have increased in Turkey despite rater modest trade. The outlook for the short-term imports remains unclear for the time being, but there is an overall positive sentiment on the market, as local steelmakers are preparing to replenish stocks.
