            Prices for Russian grains are stable, the market is quiet. The country’s government has approved the quota volume for exports of major grains (wheat, meslin, barley and corn) in the current season at the level of 24 million t (against 25.5 million t in the previous season).

            Demand for imported steel scrap was weakening in Turkey in late December as local metallurgists faced difficulties in selling finished steel products. In early January, however, buying interest increased slightly, and several deals were concluded at a bit higher prices.

            Prices for imported iron ore are climbing up in China. They have reached the highest levels in the past year and a half by January 5 owing to optimistic outlook for the developments in Chinese ore consuming industries and rumors about possible reduction in supplies from Australia.

            The offer prices for sunflower oil have generally decreased in the Black Sea region. However, quotes from Ukrainian sellers are growing on the Turkish market: the oil is offered at a price not lower than $880/t CIF Izmir,
