Activity remains minimal on the small-tonnage freight market, which is quite traditional for the very beginning of January. Thus, the 1H-mid January tonnage list is gradually growing in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, with only Ukrainian grains being relatively actively offered among all the cargoes.
Handling of grain wagons at Ukraine’s sea ports
About 7,900 wagons with grain were found waiting for unloading at Ukrainian sea ports on January 4, 2024. Taking into account that approximately 1,100 wagons per day are accepted at the stations
Actual situation with navigation in Sulina and Bystre Canals
As of January 5, there were about 28 vessels in the Sulina and Bystre canals waiting to head west to Danube ports (three destined for Izmail and one each for Reni and Giurgiulesti).
Infrastructure restrictions for trains moving to sea ports
Ukrzaliznytsia curbs the passage of trains to the seaports of Greater Odesa, the Danube region and border crossings with Moldova by 47 pairs of trains per day (about 2,600 wagons) due to infrastructure limitations. In particular, Podilsk-Rozdilna station, the only station which trains can use when moving towards the directions mentioned above
Shell delivers Kazakh oil to Germany via new route
The PCK Raffinerie GmbH in Schwedt (Germany) has received Kazakh oil from Shell for the first time through the port of Gdansk (Poland).

Reduction of tariffs for passage through Sulina Canal
The Sulina Canal Authority has almost halved the tariffs for 2024. In particular, the cost of one-way passage of an empty vessel through the canal is $0.4/NTR*, while the tariff for a loaded ship is $0.89/NTR.
