            Activity remains minimal on the small-tonnage freight market, which is quite traditional for the very beginning of January. Thus, the 1H-mid January tonnage list is gradually growing in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, with only Ukrainian grains being relatively actively offered among all the cargoes.

Polish farmers finish blocking freight traffic at Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint

            According to the information received by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine from the Border Guard of the Republic of Poland, on January 6 at 21:00 (Kyiv time), the protest action in front of the Medyka – Shehyni checkpoint ended.

Actual situation with navigation in Sulina and Bystre Canals

Polish company Olavion buys four more Dragon2 locomotives from Newag

            Polish rail freight operator Olavion (part of the Unimot Capital Group) is purchasing four more six-axle DC Dragon2 locomotives from Newag. The total value of the order is PLN 75 million.

CTL Logistics sells 37 freight wagons

            Polish company CTL Logistics has announced a tender for the sale of 37 freight wagons. The first stage of the tender will last until January 10, after which the shortlisted companies will be invited to the second stage.

Romania building transport corridor between Ukraine and EU, bypassing Poland and Hungary

            Romania is building a new highway to the border with Ukraine – the 450-km-long Autostrada Moldovei (Moldovan Expressway). The new infrastructure is expected to provide Ukraine with additional access to the EU bypassing Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia, while Romania will boost economic development in the east of the country.

Wagon queues at land border crossings*

            Almost 9,500 wagons were waiting for unloading at Ukraine’s western land border crossing points on January 3 (down 531 wagons compared with December 27). In particular, as many as 1,203 wagons were standing loaded with grain on January 3 (down 63 units compared with December 27)

Grain exports from Ukraine in MY 2023/2024

            Ukraine exported almost 19 million tonnes of grain and legumes in the period from July 1, 2023 when the current marketing year started and up to January 15, 2024, showing a plunge of 23% compared with the same period of the MY 2022-23.
