            Similar to the past few weeks, North Europe is the only region where small-tonnage owners are feeling the taste of approaching holidays and the traditional pre-holiday excitement (although not as high as usual). Limited spot tonnage list and persistent weather problems allowed owners to raise freight rates by another €0.5-1/t.

Port of Klaipeda cargo turnover in November 2024

            The handling volume dropped by approximately 78,000 t to 3.8 million t at the port of Klaipeda in November compared with October. This is mostly due to the weakened cargo turnover at the the Klaipeda State Seaport, which showed a 75,000 t plunge to 3.2 million t.

UDP to increase transportation of Ukrainian iron ore by a third

            According to the company’s press service, the extension of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company’s contract with consumers in Europe will result in a 30% increase in iron ore supplies in 2025. The company’s modernized fleet will be shipping iron ore.

Intermodal connection from Silesia via Swinoujscie to Sweden

            After test runs in November, Freightliner PL started operating from Silesia via Swinoujscie to Swedish ports (Istad/Trölleborg): on December 8, the first train with semi-trailers (eight units) was received at the ferry terminal in Swinoujscie in cooperation with Galan Logistics. After transshipment to sea, the semi-trailers were to be sent to Gothenburg and Stockholm.

Rail Baltica: Lithuania received batch of rails from Spain

December 17, 2024

            As part of the Rail Baltica project, 2,400 tons of rails with a total length of 42 km were delivered to the LTG Infra warehouse at Jonava station in Lithuania during November-December, including 30 km for curved sections (harder rails) and 10 km to cover straight sections (soft rails).

New container service between ports of Poti and Constanta

            Freight forwarding and logistics company Ferry Plus (FERRY PLUS Co. Ltd, Odesa) has announced the joint launch of regular container transportation between the seaports of Poti (Georgia) and Constanta (Romania).
