Transshipment increased by 666,000 t to 4.1 million t in the port of Klaipeda in January 2024 owing to higher performance of both Klaipeda State Seaport (up 392,000 t to 3.1 million t) and the Butinge terminal (up 274,000 t to 966,000 t).
The French engineering company Alstom has announced that it is expanding its service capacities and acquiring the German company Westfälische Lokomotivfabrik Reuschling GmbH & Co. KG (Hattingen, North Rhine-Westphalia), which specializes in maintenance, repair and modernization of shunting locomotives.
In contrast to the neighboring Handysize segment, there are no signs of recovery on the small-tonnage shipping market. “The market is dull, with lack of spot requests all across the Mediterranean and Black Seas ,” an EU broker commented.

Together with the stevedore of the Klaipeda port, BEGA, LTG Cargo Ukraine has organized the delivery of 2,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers from Klaipeda to Ukraine.
According to DTEK Energy, Ukraine imported 226,000 t of coal from Poland (the total contracted volume is 367,000 t). The deliveries are made regularly and will last until the end of March (according to the contract), which is almost the end of the heating season.
