Prices for imported iron ore are climbing up in China. They have reached the highest levels in the past year and a half by January 5 owing to optimistic outlook for the developments in Chinese ore consuming industries and rumors about possible reduction in supplies from Australia.

Quotes for imported thermal coal have nominally declined in Europe over the past two weeks as market participants suspended negotiations for the holiday period.
Activity remains minimal on the small-tonnage freight market, which is quite traditional for the very beginning of January. Thus, the 1H-mid January tonnage list is gradually growing in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, with only Ukrainian grains being relatively actively offered among all the cargoes.
