The cargo turnover dropped by 61,000 t to 434,000 t at the Ventspils Freeport in June compared with May. The decline was seen in literally all groups of cargo.
The cargo turnover has been shrinking at the Riga Freeport for the third month in a row. In May, port operators handled about 1.3 million t of goods, falling behind the April result by about 122,000 t.
In May, the cargo turnover has dropped to the minimum since January 2021 at the Ventspils Freeport. Port operators handled at best 493,000 t of goods of all groups in May, down 143,000 t compared with April.
The April cargo turnover at the Ventspils Freeport became the lowest in the entire year. Thus, transshipment volumes plunged by 134,000 t or 17% month-on-month to 636,000 t in April 2024 compared with March.
The Riga Freeport handled about 1.4 million tonnes of various types of goods in April. Therefore, the total cargo turnover decreased by 108,000 t in April compared with March.
ČD Cargo Poland, a subsidiary of the Czech national freight carrier, has won a tender to transport 1 million tons of coal from Silesian coal mines to the Polanec thermal power plant in Zawada. This is approximately nine loaded trains per week.
