The cargo turnover has been shrinking at the Riga Freeport for the third month in a row. In May, port operators handled about 1.3 million t of goods, falling behind the April result by about 122,000 t.
The June rental rates have stayed at the level of May in the Baltic countries. Rental rates for box cars with a body capacity of 161-175 cu m and fitting platforms have changed slightly only due to exchange rate fluctuations.
In May, the cargo turnover has dropped to the minimum since January 2021 at the Ventspils Freeport. Port operators handled at best 493,000 t of goods of all groups in May, down 143,000 t compared with April.
Ukrzaliznytsia and Duisburger Hafen AG (Duisport) plan to launch regular container and piggyback trains between Ukraine and Germany (Duisburg port) this summer. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, a memorandum has already been signed.
