Railway deliveries of mineral fertilizers to Ukrainian consignees

            Due to a 24% hike to 97,000 t in the inflow of imported mineral fertilizers into Ukraine in March compared with February, the overall transportation volume of fertilizers increased by 4% month-on-month or 10,000 t to 239,000 t in Ukraine in March despite the fact that supplies within the country sagged by 5%

Szczecin-Świnoujście port complex sees 19% plunge in cargo turnover in Q1 2024

            The Poland’s port complex Szczecin-Świnoujście reported a 19.4% decrease in cargo turnover to 7.57 million t in January-March 2024 compared with the same period of 2023.

Ventspils Freeport cargo turnover in March 2024

European Parliament approves extension of duty-free trade with Ukraine with protection for EU farmers

               On April 23, the European Parliament approved the extension of the duty-free trade agreement with Ukraine until June 2025, but now with protection for EU farmers. The decision was voted for by 428 MPs, against by 131, and abstentions by 44.

USAID: Modernization of rail and road checkpoints on Ukraine’s western borders

            As part of USAID’s Economic Resilience Activity, 42 rail and road checkpoints are to be modernized on Ukraine’s western borders. So far, 20 road and seven rail checkpoints have been inspected. They are crucial for Ukrainian exports and need to be improved to create new export routes.

PKP LHS: Transportation performance and development of railway infrastructure

            In Q1 2024, the Polish railway operator PKP LHS transported 2.9 million tons of cargo, which is 152,400 tons more than in the same period last year. In particular, the company increased imports by 97% and exports by 77.5%.

Launch of new regular service between Poland and port of Rotterdam

            On April 10, a new intermodal service was launched between the PKP Cargo Zduńska Wola terminal (Karsznice, Poland) and the seaport of Rotterdam. The first trip from the Netherlands to Poland took three days.

40 million tons of cargo shipped via temporary corridor from ports of Greater Odesa

            Since August 8, 2023, when the temporary corridor of the Ukrainian Navy became operational, about 40 million tons of cargo have been exported from the ports of Pivdennyi, Odesa and Chornomorsk, including more than 26 million t of agricultural products.
