A total of 3.2 million t of iron ore were carried by railways in Ukraine in September, showing an increase of 1% compared with August. Iron ore exports rose by 2% month-on-month to 2.4 million t, while home deliveries sagged by 2% month-on-month to 900,000 t.
The Riga Freeport stepped up cargo turnover by 286,000 t to 1.6 million t in September compared with August.
According to the Liepaja SEZ, the September cargo turnover dropped to the lowest level since January 2024 at the port. Operators reduced transshipment by 30,000 t to 497,000 t in September compared with August.
A total of 18.7 million tons of various goods were transported by railway in Poland in August, down 2.1% month-on-month and down 2.7% year-on-year.
The port of Klaipeda handled approximately 4.2 million t of various cargoes in September 2024, up 136,000 t from August and the highest since February 2022. The overall increase is mainly due to a 240,000 t hike in cargo turnover in the Klaipeda State Seaport to 3.54 million t.
Almost 4.8 million t of agricultural products were exported from Ukraine in August 2024 (down 3% or about 100,000 t compared with July). The cargo turnover shrank by 7% at the Ventspils Freeport in August compared with July. In particular, port operators handled 582,000 t of various types of goods, down 44,000 t against the previous month.
