Export quotes for Russian grains have inched up this week thanks to increased demand and reduced offer from farmers. The volume of concluded contracts for wheat sales amounted to 2.8 million t by November 21 (against 2 million t a month earlier), while exports in November are expected to reach 4.35 million t.
Mixed price trend can be seen on the EU grain export market, although a downtrend prevails. Tenders from key importers of European grain failed to support prices.
Grain export trade has perked up slightly in Ukraine, supporting relevant quotes. Shipments by sea are still apportioned between the Danube and Black Sea ports (Odesa and Chernomorsk), exports through which in November are expected to reach 464,000 t and 943,000 t, respectively.
Approximately 6,100 wagons with grain were found waiting for unloading at Ukrainian sea ports on November 23. Taking into account that stations accept on average 957 wagons per day, it might take up to 6 days to serve all these wagons.
Almost 1.74 million tonnes of grain were exported from Ukraine by railways during the period started November 1 and ended November 22 compared with 1.73 million t supplied abroad in October, according to updated reports.
About 485 wagons were reportedly heading to the Batiovo – Epereshke land border crossing point on November 27, including 170 wagons with ore, 123 wagons with vegetable oil, 66 wagons with oil cake, and 46 wagons with grain.
Ukrzaliznytsia transported almost 24.27 million tonnes of grain and its processing products in the period from January 1 to October 31, 2023, showing a 5.8% rise compared with the same period of 2022. Up to 17.56 million t of the cargo were delivered abroad (down 0.7% year-on-year).
Almost 9,200 wagons with various goods were found waiting for a transfer through Ukraine’s western land border crossing points on November 23 compared with 11,600 wagons in late October.
On average 242 wagons were transferred daily through the Chop – Čierna nad Tisou land border crossing point as of November 23 (up 33 units per day in two weeks). In particular, 203 wagons were moving on export routes (up 20 units), while 39 wagons arrived with imported goods (up 13 wagons).
In ten months, the Romanian port of Constanta shipped 29.4 million t of grain, including 11.7 million t from Ukraine (8.6 million t of Ukrainian products were handled last year). Thus, the share of Ukrainian grain in the cargo turnover in Constanta amounted to almost 40%.
