Port of Gdynia stepped up cargo handling by 5% in 2023

            Last year, the Port of Gdynia increased its cargo handling by 5% year-on-year to 29.4 million tonnes. Grain was the most popular cargo, with the total turnover of 6.8 million t in 2023 (up 43% year-on-year). Coal goes next with 2.8 million t transshipped in the period under review (down 17%).

Transportation of fats and oils via Izov-Exp to Poland temporarily restricted

            From February 15 to February 21, transportation of fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin, prepared edible fats and waxes of animal or vegetable origin (HS 15) from Ukrainian stations via the Izov-Exp border crossing to Poland is prohibited for all consignees.

New road border crossing point with Poland starts operating in six months

            The new Nyzhankovychi – Malkhovychi automobile checkpoint on the border with Poland is expected to open in the next six months. Construction began in September 2021 and is currently in its final stages.

Freight rolling stock rental rates in Ukraine in February 2024

            As before, the rental rates for gondola cars have been growing in February 2024. The increase has been driven by a number of factors – firstly, by brisker transportation of construction cargo such as clay, crushed stone, etc.

Riga Freeport cargo turnover in January 2024

            A slight upturn in shipments of Ukrainian grain reported late last week did not affect the market significantly. “The problem is that there is almost nothing on the market except Ukrainian grain and some Russian cargoes,” a Turkish broker commented to ISM.

Liepaja SEZ cargo turnover in January 2024

            The overall cargo turnover remained almost unchanged at the Liepaja SEZ in January 2024. Port operators handled 693,000 t of various cargoes, down 21,000 t below December 2023.

Agrosem to commission elevator on border with Poland by end of 2024

            Agrosem plans to complete construction and commission a new grain elevator with a capacity of 22,000 tons at its own MOST Logistic Terminal on the border with Poland by December 2024. The terminal is expected to have an annual transshipment capacity of 400,000 tons.
