The port of Klaipeda’s overall transshipment volume dropped by 242,000 t to 3.3 million t in May compared with April due to a 294,000 t slump in the cargo turnover to 2.4 million t at the Klaipeda State Seaport.
The cargo turnover of all operators of the Liepaja SEZ remained almost unchanged in May compared with April. Thus, the operators handled a total of 588,000 t of cargo of all groups in May (up insignificant 4,000 t over the month).
The April cargo turnover at the Ventspils Freeport became the lowest in the entire year. Thus, transshipment volumes plunged by 134,000 t or 17% month-on-month to 636,000 t in April 2024 compared with March.
The Riga Freeport handled about 1.4 million tonnes of various types of goods in April. Therefore, the total cargo turnover decreased by 108,000 t in April compared with March.
The April cargo turnover of the port of Klaipeda increased by 244,000 t compared with March to almost 3.6 million t. This is mainly due to a 263,000 t hike in handling volume of crude oil at the Butinge terminal to 856,000 t (up 44% month-on-month).
The stevedoring companies operating in the Riga Freeport handled almost 1.6 million t of various types of cargo in March 2024, showing a 123,000 t hike compared with February. The increase is due to brisker transshipment of general cargo
The Liepaja SEZ cargo turnover did not change much in March compared to February. The port operators all together handled about 637,000 t of cargo (up 2% month-on-month or up 13,000 t against February).
The overall cargo turnover rose by 97,000 t to 3.3 million t at the port of Klaipeda in March 2024 compared with February. This is mainly due to increased transshipment in the Klaipeda State Seaport (up 93,000 t to 2.7 million t).
