Sunflower oil market. Ukraine // Week 32
Prices for Ukrainian sunflower oil inched up, although buyers’ demand was limited. Sunflower oil with spot shipments in August was offered at $950-960/t CIF Mersin, with no bids received.

Ukraine: Up to 409k tonnes of grain were carried by rail in Aug 1-16
A total of 409,000 tonnes of grain were exported from Ukraine by railways during the period started August 1 and ended August 16 compared with 805,000 t during the entire July.
Exports from Ukraine by railway
A total of 82.7 million tonnes of various goods were transported in the Ukrzaliznytsia railway network in the period from January 1 to July 30, 2023, down 13% year-on-year.
Ukraine’s grain export by rail barely reached 235 tonnes in Aug 1-10
A total of 235,000 tonnes of grain were exported from Ukraine by railways during the period started August 1 and ended August 10, 2023. Note that the corresponding transportation volume averaged about 805,000 t in July.
Handling at Ukraine – Poland border crossings*
On August 9, a total of 1,639 wagons were waiting in a queue at the Izov station (556 wagons with ore, 329 wagons with metals, 434 wagons with cakes, 108 containers), while 1,046 wagons (483 with metals, 369 containers, 163 with grain, 30 with cement) were standing at the Mostyska-2 station.
Goods awaiting transfer through Ukraine’s western land border crossing points
There were about 8,300 wagons with various goods waiting to be transferred through Ukraine’s western land border crossing points as of August 9 compared with 7,390 wagons seen in late July.
Handling at Ukraine – Slovakia border crossings*
As many as 289 wagons were transferred daily through the Chop – Čierna nad Tisou land border crossing point as of August 3 (up 15 wagons compared with the previous week).
Handling at Ukraine – Romania and Ukraine – Moldova border crossings*
As many as 156 wagons per day were transferred through the the Vadul-Siret – Dornesti (Romania) land border crossing as of August 8 (up 11 wagons compared with the previous week). Prices for Ukrainian sunflower oil fell significantly amid problems with shipments and competition with Russian traders.
Handling at Ukraine – Hungary border crossings*
As many as 499 wagons were heading to the Batiovo – Epereshke land border crossing point on August 7, including 234 with ore, 84 with grain, and 102 with vegetable oil. Note that the grain flow has lately been gaining pace at this border crossing.
