Baltic Hub: transshipment record and terminal expansion project
LTG Cargo strengthens intermodal transportation in cooperation with Girteka Europe West Group
Lithuanian company LTG Cargo (Lietuvos Geležinkeliai) has announced the strengthening of intermodal services between Kaunas and Duisburg, Pruszkow and Slavków with the participation of LTG Cargo Polska, which has 31 locomotives at its disposal.
Increase in container transportation and other foreign trade trends
According to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the overall export volume of goods in containers increased in 2023, showing a 86% hike in rail deliveries and a 36% rise in those by road. Note that container transportation is the most effective in terms of goods with a high added value.
Handling at Ukraine-Slovakia border crossings*
About 266 wagons were transferred daily through the Chop – Čierna nad Tisou land border crossing point as of December 21 (up 9 units per day in two weeks). Approximately 199 wagons per day were moving on export routes (down 1 unit), while 67 wagons arrived with imported cargo (up 10 units).
New intermodal service between Germany and Sweden
Adif to upgrade railway infrastructure at Seville cargo terminal
Adif, a railway infrastructure operator, has announced the start of repairing the railway infrastructure at its La Negrilla cargo terminal in Spain. In particular, rails, concrete sleepers and ballast are to be replaced on eleven tracks. Handling at Ukraine – Poland border crossings*
On December 14, a total of 3,200 wagons were moving to the Izov station including 1,300 wagons with cakes, 561 wagons with vegetable oil, and 626 containers. Handling at Ukraine – Romania and Ukraine – Moldova border crossings*
About 185 wagons were transferred daily through the the Vadul-Siret – Dornesti (Romania) land border crossing as of December 19 (down 5 wagons in two weeks). By destinations, approximately 146 wagons with export cargo (up 10 units) and 39 wagons with imported goods (down 24 units) were handled daily in the period under review.
