On the West European market, quotes for imported thermal coal have declined amid moderate pace of trade. Consumers tend to postpone purchases until the situation with natural gas supplies becomes clearer and in anticipation of further price cuts.
About 11,600 wagons with various goods were found waiting for a transfer through Ukraine’s western land border crossing points on October 25 compared with nearly 11,100 wagons in late September.
The company “DTEK Energo” imported more than 38,000 t of coal from Poland in order to ensure the stable operation of thermal power plants during the heating season. The information was unveiled by Ildar Saleyev, the general director of the company.
According to results of the January-September period 2023, the cargo turnover reached almost 27 million tonnes at the ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie, showing a 1% increase compared with the same period of 2022.
In early October, the Polish Węglokoks SA Group, which unites companies from the mining, metallurgical, energy and logistics sectors, closed a deal to acquire shares in the Port Północny transshipment and warehouse company in Gdańsk. The company now owns 80.43% of the port’s shares.
Up to 291 wagons were transferred daily through the Chop – Čierna nad Tisou land border crossing point as of October 12 (down 18 units compared with the previous week). In particular, 258 wagons were moving on export routes (down 20 units), while 33 wagons arrived with imported goods (up 2 wagons).

About 2,950 wagons were moving to the Izov station on October 11, including 938 wagons with cakes, 893 wagons with vegetable oil, and 246 wagons with grain. Up to 1,900 wagons were on their way to the Mostyska-2 station on that date, including 976 containers and 418 wagons with metals.
Quotes for imported thermal coal have inched up in Western Europe, although players do not see any trade upturn. No deals have been signed over the week.
